29/10/1954 N.E. Royal Train The locomotives used to haul the Royal train from Newcastle to Sunderland and back on the occasion of the visit of Her Majesty the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh to the N.E. Coast on Friday, 29/10/1954, were V1 tank 67653 and V3 tank 67689, both beautifully polished for the occasion. The engines ran bunker first from Newcastle and were prompt to time, arriving at Sunderland at 4.08 p.m. After a 10 minute halt, the train proceeded to Ryhope Grange where the engines ran round the coaches ready for the return journey. Due to delays on the Royal tour of Tyneside, the return journey was commenced about half an hour late. SLS/195412
