Class C12. G.N.R. Ivatt 5'8" 4-4-2T's consisting of 60 engines built between 1898 and 1907, mostly for London suburban services, being fitted with condensing apparatus for working through the Metropolitan tunnels. On being replaced by the larger N2 0-6-2T's, this apparatus was removed and the class drafted to work country branches. Ten of the class were scrapped prior to the war and consequently were not included in the 1946 renumbering scheme. Twenty were still running in 1957. |
