2-cylinder 4-6-0's, with 5' 8" wheels, a slightly lighter version of the 'Granges', designed by Collett for use over main and cross-country lines restricted against the use of heavy engines, such as the former Cambrian and M. & S.W.J.R. systems. Nos 7800-7819 were built in 1938-39 and Nos. 7820-7829 in 1950. The original intention was to construct 100 engines of each of the 'Grange' and 'Manor' classes to be numbered 6800-6899 and 7800-7899. They were intended to replace the use of the '4300' class for passenger work. The order was suspended at the outbreak of war and apart from constructing ten further 'Manors' in 1950, no more were built and the order was never completed. |
