Description (1957) Collett 2-cylinder 4-6-0's, with 6' 0" wheels, for general purpose express duties. The original engine, No. 4900 Saint Martin, was a reconstruction of a Churchward 'Saint' (see '2900' class). The remainder of the class were built at varying dates between 1928 and 1950 and all are named after 'Halls'. The missing engine in the series, No. 4911, was destroyed in an air raid in 1941. Between 1946 and 1950 some of the class ran as oil burners and were renumbered temporarily in the 3900's, reverting to their original numbers on reconversion to coal burning.
