| Description (1957) |
`King' class 4-cylinder 4-6-0's, with 6' 6" wheels and 250 lbs. pressure, built by Collett from 1927 to 1930. These engines remained the Great Western's most powerful passenger engines until the end of its existence. Unlike the other three groups the G.W.R. never adopted the 'Pacific' type of locomotive for top-link work, after its experiment with The Great Bear in 1908. |
