Description (1957) Churchward 6' 8½" 4-4-0 express engine, one of a series of twenty constructed in 1901-3. City of Truro achieved world fame in 1904 by being the first engine officially recorded as having attained a speed of over 100 miles per hour. On withdrawal in 1931 it was sent to York Museum for preservation, but early in 1957 it was renovated and put into service once more, mainly for working enthusiasts' specials, but when not so employed it runs in ordinary service, usually on light trains between Didcot and Southampton.
