Description (1957)

The survivors of Dean's 'Duke of Cornwall' class 4-4-0's, a series of forty engines built between 1895 and 1899. They had outside frames and 5' 8" driving wheels. Built for service over the steeply graded Cornwall lines, they were latterly used principally on the former Cambrian Railways. The majority of the class carried names associated with the West Country. Until 1946 they were numbered 3254, 3264, etc. All the surviving locomotives of this class were withdrawn by 1951.
