12/07/1952 Summer Services From the introduction of summer services some interesting working has been noted on Mallaig-Glasgow lines. 'Glens' returned to the route. 62493 Glen Gloy went North on the 10.21 a.m. ex-Queen St. on Wednesday, 2nd July, pilot to K.2. On 19th July the 3.46 p.m. relief went out behind Glen Gloy and Glen Croe, Nos. 62493 an 62474. Eastfield was bereft of almost every passenger engine that day. Return trains at noon from Mallaig, on Saturdays have been very late, as they have had to wait for steamer connections. The worst was on 16th August, when the train was 3¼ hours late. On the same date, the 8.15 a.m. ex-Mallaig was 3 hours late. Trains have been heavy, K2's have brought 8 coaches, without pilot. The Kings Cross train has been loaded up to 11 coaches, and is generally hauled by a B1 or ex-LM Class 5 and K1 or K2. On 16/7 K1 62031 failed near Tulloch Station. A cylinder cover was blown off and cylinder casting was damaged. Some delay occurred until the Down goods engine could get out to haul the damaged engine into Tulloch yard and dispose of the train. Ex-L.M. 2-6-0 engines work occasional Low Level trains to Helensburgh. Of the three N2 0-6-2T sent to Dawsholm, two were turned dead, hauled by 2-8-0 W.D., as unsuitable for the section. Only 69553 remains at Dawsholm. SLS/195210
