Description (1957) Class J52 Stirling and Ivatt 4'8" 0-6-0ST's constructed for the Great Northern. Built between 1892 and 1909 there were originally 137 locomotives in the class. The earlier engines had domeless boilers as first built, some being fitted with condensing apparatus for working through the Metropolitan tunnels. Nos. 68845 and 68816 have been renumbered 1 and 2 in the Departmental stock. Withdrawals have been heavy since 1954.
